Ronald McDonald Care Mobile

Comprehensive Community Action, Eastbay Community Action and Thundermist Health Center created a joint venture to bring a Ronald McDonald Care Mobile to RI. The Care Mobile comes with two fully equipped dental operatories and will provide dental services to children in 20 RI communities. A grant from the Rhode Island Oral Health Access Project helped secure funding for the Care Mobile valued at approximately $500,000. Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern New England, Inc. will provide up to $100,000 per year for five years to help operate the Care Mobile. The Care Mobile program will be part of CCAP's Family Health Services and serve children in Cranston, Warwick and Coventry.  It is expected to begin services in the fall 2006.

Providence Skills Center

The Doric Center's Learn to Earn Program is up and running at the new Providence Skills Center located at Providence Place Mall. The Learn to Earn Programs serve youth who have dropped out of school and have poor job skills. CVS has built a mock pharmacy, complete with lab, cash registers, electronics and other necessary equipment to train students to work as entry level pharmacy techs. The Learn to Earn Program is very successful and is meeting all benchmarks for enrollment.

The Incredible Years

CCAP's Head Start program has started to implement the SAMSHA Model Program, The Incredible Years. Head Start staff is working with staff from Bradley Hospital’s Early Childhood Clinical Research Center (ECCRC) to help implement, run and evaluate the effectiveness of the program. The Incredible Years program is designed to promote emotional and social competence and to prevent aggressive, defiant oppositional and impulsive behavior in young children 2 to 7 years of age.

Emergency Food

This winter we have seen an increase in the number of families seeking emergency food from CCAP's Social Services Component. Now almost 900 families now use CCAP's Food Bank on a regular basis. We have received generous donations from schools, businesses and individuals.  We offer people more than a bag of food. CCAP has a variety of programs and services to help people get back on their feet. From help with heating their home to affordable child and health care CCAP is the place to turn in times of need.
